INTRODUCTION

In cases of a natural disaster such as an earthquake or a typhoon, collecting reliable information is critical to saving the lives of the most vulnerable. There has been lack of any quick means to gather and analyze this crucial information in order to understand the population’s needs during humanitarian emergencies  and therefore Kobo Toolbox, which is a group of tools for field data collection used in challenging environments, was built to address this gap. The software is free and open source. It allows data collection using Android enabled mobile devices and data submission to an online server. This training will impart the trainees with the necessary knowledge and skills to conduct mobile data collection using Kobo Toolbox.

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive Certificate of Participation.

OBJECTIVES

By the end of this training, the participants will be able to:

·      Properly generate survey forms using Build or XLS Forms

·      Set up Form Builder, Kobo Collect and Kobo Toolbox

·      Build complex forms with skip logic and validation

·      Import and export XLS Forms

·      Collect Data both Online and Offline

·      Upload forms to Kobo Toolbox server

·      Load forms into Kobo Collect on an Android device

·      Use Kobo Collect to fill out forms with field participants

·      Upload survey data from Kobo Collect to Kobo Toolbox server

·      Analyze and manage collected data

·      Exporting GPS Coordinates to Google maps 

·      Exporting GPS data for Mapping/Visualizing

·      Visualizing GIS data using QGIS

GENERAL NOTES

·      The instructor led trainings are delivered using a blended learning approach and comprises of presentations, guided sessions of practical exercise, web-based tutorials and group work. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience, working as professional and trainers in these fields.

·      The participants should be reasonably proficient in English as all facilitation and course materials will be offered in English.

·      Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued with a certificate.

·      The training will be held at Kincaid Training Centre. The course fee covers the course tuition, training materials, two break refreshments and lunch.

·      All participants will additionally cater for their, travel expenses, visa application, insurance, and other personal expenses.
