Introduction

In this course human rights, humanitarian and development workers will be introduced to the fundamentals of qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, including survey design, interviewing and associated techniques for analysis in support of project-based monitoring and evaluation. This course will be helpful for those with modest experience in monitoring and evaluation. Participants are encouraged to come to the course with an instrument and/or associated protocols for analysis that can be developed. This is an advanced course on data analysis and will address sampling and regression analysis.

This course complements KDC’s 5-day introductory course on Monitoring & Evaluation in the NGO Sector.

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive Certificate of Participation.

Duration

This certificate course involves approximately 10 days.

Who should Attend

The course is intended for staff members of international development organisations, human rights/social justice organisations and international organisations. Participants should have a good written command of English and have high competence and comfort with computer and Internet use. 

Course outline

1.    Introduction to qualitative research methods and interview protocols

2.    Analyzing qualitative data (coding, patterning and use of narrative)

3.    Introduction to quantitative research methods and survey design

4.    Sampling techniques and procedures (Sample size determination)

5.    Analyzing quantitative data (descriptive statistics)

6.    Analyzing quantitative data (Inferential statistics)

General Notes

·      The instructor led trainings are delivered using a blended learning approach and comprises of presentations, guided sessions of practical exercise, web-based tutorials and group work. Our facilitators are seasoned industry experts with years of experience, working as professional and trainers in these fields.

·      The participants should be reasonably proficient in English as all facilitation and course materials will be offered in English.

·      Upon successful completion of this training, participants will be issued with a certificate.

·      The training will be held at Kincaid Training Centre. The course fee covers the course tuition, training materials, two break refreshments and lunch.

·      All participants will additionally cater for their, travel expenses, visa application, insurance, and other personal expenses.
