Oil and gas fields, pipelines, refineries, liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, renewable energy facilities, transmission lines, power plants, storage depots, and other energy infrastructure often require access to land that is occupied, owned, used, or traditionally managed by individuals and communities. If land acquisition and resettlement are not planned and implemented responsibly, they can result in displacement, livelihood loss, social conflict, legal disputes, project delays, increased costs, reputational damage, and the loss of an organization’s social licence to operate.
