Oil and Gas Industry Safety Management Training Course

Introduction

The oil and gas industry operates in environments with some of the most complex and high-risk conditions in the world. From offshore drilling platforms to refineries and pipelines, hazards such as fires, explosions, toxic exposures, equipment failures, and environmental spills are ever-present. Effective safety management is therefore essential — not only to protect human life and assets but also to ensure regulatory compliance, safeguard the environment, and maintain operational continuity.

This intensive 5-day course by Kincaid Development Center provides participants with the knowledge, skills, and tools to implement world-class safety management systems across upstream, midstream, and downstream operations. It combines international best practices (ISO 45001, API standards, IOGP guidelines) with practical case studies and African industry contexts, ensuring participants are prepared to manage safety risks in both local and global oil and gas operations.

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand safety risks specific to oil and gas operations.
  • Implement effective Safety Management Systems (SMS).
  • Conduct hazard identification and risk assessment in oil and gas facilities.
  • Apply accident prevention and incident investigation techniques.
  • Manage emergency preparedness and response plans.
  • Ensure compliance with international and national safety standards.
