Training Course on Community-Based Forest and Agroforestry Governance

Effective forest and agroforestry governance lies at the heart of sustainable natural resource management. Across Africa and beyond, communities play a vital role in protecting forests, restoring landscapes, and ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources. However, realizing the full potential of community-based forest management (CBFM) requires well-structured governance systems, clear institutional arrangements, equitable benefit-sharing mechanisms, and strong local participation.

The Community-Based Forest and Agroforestry Governance training course offered by Kincaid Development Center is designed to strengthen the capacity of professionals, policymakers, and community leaders in developing inclusive, transparent, and sustainable governance structures for forests and agroforestry systems. Participants will explore practical approaches to participatory decision-making, policy alignment, conflict resolution, and community empowerment — all critical pillars in sustainable forest management and landscape resilience.

By integrating local knowledge, scientific evidence, and policy frameworks, this course empowers participants to design and implement governance models that balance conservation with livelihoods, ensuring that forest and agroforestry resources remain productive for future generations.

This training uses a combination of interactive lectures, practical group exercises, field-based demonstrations, and case studies. Participants will engage in simulations, policy analysis workshops, and community governance role plays, culminating in a capstone group project focused on designing a community governance framework.

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive Certificate of Participation.
