Introduction
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of economic growth, job creation, and innovation in most economies. However, their access to financing remains one of the most significant challenges they face. Financial institutions often perceive SMEs as high-risk borrowers due to limited collateral, insufficient credit history, and market uncertainties.
SME guarantee schemes — provided by governments, development finance institutions, and private entities — are designed to address this financing gap by sharing the credit risk between lenders and guarantors. Understanding how these guarantees work, and how to conduct robust credit analysis for SMEs, is crucial for any financial institution aiming to grow its SME lending portfolio sustainably while managing risk effectively.
This five-day intensive course equips participants with the technical, analytical, and strategic skills needed to assess SME creditworthiness, leverage guarantee schemes, and design sustainable SME lending products. The course blends theory, practical tools, and real-world case studies to ensure participants can apply the knowledge immediately in their institutions.
Participants who successfully complete the course will receive Certificate of Participation.
