Introduction
Social Performance Management (SPM) has become a strategic priority for organizations operating in the oil and gas industry due to increasing expectations from governments, regulators, investors, host communities, development partners, and financial institutions. Oil and gas projects have far-reaching social implications that extend beyond economic benefits, influencing livelihoods, land use, cultural heritage, human rights, public health, employment, education, infrastructure development, gender equality, and community well-being. Organizations that effectively manage social performance are better positioned to maintain their social licence to operate, reduce project risks, enhance stakeholder trust, improve operational efficiency, and contribute to sustainable development.
Social Performance Management is the systematic process of identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and enhancing the social impacts of business activities throughout the project lifecycle. It integrates stakeholder engagement, human rights due diligence, social impact assessment, grievance management, community development, local content, resettlement planning, Indigenous Peoples’ engagement, gender inclusion, and monitoring and evaluation into organizational decision-making and project implementation.
International standards and frameworks such as the IFC Performance Standards, World Bank Environmental and Social Framework (ESF), Equator Principles, United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), International Labour Organization (ILO) Conventions, Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR), ISO 26000 Guidance on Social Responsibility, International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA) Good Practice Guidance, Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide comprehensive guidance for managing social risks and maximizing positive social outcomes in the extractive industries.
Advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), stakeholder engagement platforms, mobile data collection tools, predictive social risk analytics, digital grievance management systems, and real-time monitoring dashboards are transforming how organizations manage social performance, enabling more proactive, transparent, and data-driven decision-making.
This Training Course on Social Performance Management is designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and skills to develop, implement, monitor, and continuously improve social performance management systems that align with international standards and industry best practices. Participants will gain competencies in social impact assessment, stakeholder engagement, community relations, human rights due diligence, grievance management, local content, social investment, ESG integration, monitoring and evaluation, and organizational learning.
The course combines internationally recognized best practices with practical case studies, stakeholder engagement simulations, social impact assessment exercises, grievance management workshops, community development planning sessions, and organizational action planning to ensure participants acquire practical competencies that can be immediately applied within their organizations.
Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a Certificate of Participation.
